How to Obtain Medical Wigs Through Insurance

Hair restoration flyer.jpg

1. **Check Insurance Coverage: **

   - We can check clients insurance policy or call their provider to determine if their plan covers “cranial prosthesis” (the term often used for medical wigs). Some policies may offer partial or full reimbursement, particularly for individuals experiencing hair loss due to medical conditions like alopecia, chemotherapy, or other treatments.

2. **Get a Prescription from a Doctor: **

   - We encourage clients to ask their physician or dermatologist to write a prescription for a “cranial prosthesis” rather than a wig. The prescription should include the client’s medical diagnosis (e.g., chemotherapy, alopecia), which justifies the need for a medical wig.

3. **Obtain Documentation: **

   - Clients may need additional supporting documents such as:

     - A letter of medical necessity from the physician explaining why the wig is essential for the patient’s well-being.

     - An invoice or quote from the wig provider (e.g., SD II Hair Restoration) listing the cost of the wig.

4. **Submit a Claim: **

   - Clients should submit the prescription, medical necessity letter, and invoice to Shear Designs II and Hair Restoration Eligibility team. We will ensure confidential & follow the insurer’s submission guidelines to avoid delays.

5. **Follow Up: **

   - After submitting the claim, it may be necessary to follow up with the insurance provider to check on the status of the claim or provide any additional information.

6. **Seek Financial Assistance If Needed: **

   - If the insurance provider does not cover the cost of a medical wig, clients can explore other options like applying for assistance through non-profit organizations or looking into our alternative solution alternative plans.

**Providing Client Support: **

- We offer **documentation assistance** ensuring product invoices and quotes are clear and compliant with insurance terms.

- **Partner with doctors** who understand the process, so they can provide the necessary medical justification.

- Keep clients **informed** about potential reimbursement options and encourage them to check with their insurance provider early in their treatment process.

By guiding clients through the process, we can make it easier for them to access the medical wigs they need.
